Education scholarships for children and spouses of pALS

Bradford Smith was diagnosed with ALS at 39. He had just moved to a new state with his wife and three kids under seven years old.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) affects families of every type, including families with young children and spouses that are unexpectedly the breadwinner and caregiver.

These are some scholarships for children and spouses of people with ALS. As we search for a cure, we must also take care of those who lose opportunities because of ALS.

A permanent endowed scholarship for up to full tuition at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

In honor of Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive Major League Baseball games played, Iron Horse Scholarships provides up to $2,130/semester for up to eight semesters. The value of each award will vary.

Applications are early in the year.

The purpose of the scholarship fund is to provide financial assistance to students pursuing an accredited college degree or vocational certificate, and whose ability to cover the costs is severely compromised as a result of their family’s financial burden of ALS.

At least 20 awards of $5000 are granted each year.

Life Happens sponsors the annual Life Lessons Scholarship Program for college students and college-bound high school seniors. Qualified entrants who submit essays or videos about how the death of a parent impacted their lives are eligible for scholarship money. Over

This scholarship was established by Greg Merfeld on February 9, 2011, at Ventura County Community Foundation to benefit college students whose parents have been diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrigs disease. The Merfeld Family Foundation Scholarship Fund at VCCF is a national award with preference given to students in Southern California and Merfeld's native Iowa.

Application deadline is in January.

Eric’s Vision plants the seeds for tomorrow’s ALS research by awarding individual scholarships to high school students who show an interest in pursuing research in an ALS-related field.

ALS Ride For Life, a Long Island based not-for-profit patient-driven charity, has available annual scholarships for a graduating senior(s) who has had an ALS family member. The Scholarship winner(s) will be notified on or about March 15 and money will be available and made payable to the college on or about August 1. This scholarship is funded by the philanthropic participation of Long Island educators, Long Island Teacher Unions, and generous business organizations.
